on terminal type the following command:

echo “deb $(lsb_release -sc) contrib”
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list
wget -q -O-
sudo apt-key add –
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.0

After installed virtualbox in ubuntu add extension package VirtualBox, this is an additional feature to support usb 2.0, that such extensions can work on ubuntu. Open VirtualBox and go to File> Preferences and in the Extensions tab, click the “add” button on the right and browse to the VirtualBox extensions package.


for you who are still using old version ubuntu and want to install a new versionubuntu, are suggested to install virtualbox-ose-guest-utils

run this following command:

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-utils
