Ubuntu 16.04 and Official Flavors Beta 2 Available to Download

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) beta 2 has been released, along with the final beta of official flavors, including Ubuntu GNOME 16.04,Ubuntu MATE 16.04, Ubuntu Kylin 16.04, Ubuntu Studio 16.04, Kubuntu 16.04, Lubuntu 16.04 and Xubuntu 16.04.

The Highlight of Ubuntu 16.04 Beta 2 :

  • Unity 7 as default desktop of ubuntu 16.04 updated to version 7.4, the following notable fixes and changes:
    • Hidden option to move Unity launcher to the bottom of the screen
    • New scrollbars in Unity Dash
    • Workspace switcher has gained a quick list
    • Session shortcuts (restart, shutdown, etc) added to Unity Dash
    • Loading apps now place icon on launcher sooner
    • Online searches are now disabled by default
    • Option to ‘Always Show’ app menus in menu bar or locally
    • Indication of how many external storage/Trash windows are open
    • Option to format removable devices added to quicklist
    • External storage on launcher can be opened using Alt+{num}
    • Ubuntu themes now draw (most) CSD windows correctly
    • the Sound Menu now lets you adjust microphone input volume using a slider (only shows when a microphone is present).
  • Ubuntu 16.04 Beta 2 ships with long-term supported Linux kernel 4.4.6
  • Core applications updates, Firefox 45.0.1, Thunderbird 38.6, LibreOffice 5.1, Chromium 49, Nautilus (aka ‘Files’) 3.14, Totem (aka ‘Videos’) 3.18, Rhythmbox 3.3.1, Shotwell 0.22
  • Ubuntu Software Center has been replaced by GNOME Software 3.19, also include GNOME Calendar 3.18 as default calender app.
