To be able to easily change the GTK theme, install GNOME Tweak Tool on ubuntu 11.10, on terminal type command:
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
to change the GNOME Shell themes, you’ll need GNOME Shell User Theme extension. install it using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme
After installing GNOME Shell User Theme restart gnome-shell extension, press ALT-F2 type: r

Press ALT-F2 typing gnome-tweak-tool or from Application – Advance Settings

click theme – shell theme - Open and browse theme gnome shell that you want to install, then change the theme
